Inspired today, 5th April, 2021, by the illustrative efforts of my friend, Ms Ida Henrich; @idahenrich on Instagram. Having a burst of creativity is a wonderful thing!
On Monday, 5th April, 2021, the Internet was rife with articles about the spelling of ‘Thandiwe’, the original spelling of Ms Newton's ‘first name’. In declaring her emancipation from Western ideological constraints, and thus, seizing back control of her mother’s ‘beloved’ stolen land, Ms Newton’s birth name, Thandiwe, appears to have issued a cri de cœur. Therefore, following an act of spontaneous creativity, I chose to display my solidarity with Ms Newton’s cause by posting ‘WiThandi-we stand!’ in the comments section of one of her Instagram posts yesterday. In displaying these logos and slogans here, on The Subtext, I am vowing to maintain my support for Ms Thandiwe Newton and all she signifies.
